Signs of the Apocalypse

Britney Spears on the cover of the Atlantic Monthly:

I wonder how many kids will pick this one up at Borders thinking it's the latest US Weekly.

If you're interested, the article is here. I thought it was moderately interesting, but I had expected more of a big picture (no pun intended) or global view. Instead, it was pretty much all about the photographers following Ms. Spears, and that was it.

"Yes, I want to take full responsibility for destroying The Atlantic," David Samuels said on On the Media.

Did you see the South Park last night? It was a great commentary on the paparazzi and Spears.

Still, I learned something from the article about X-17. Paps go plastic toy factory, you know? I pray to God every day that I make it to at least 80, just so I can have some longterm perspective on pop culture. Can't you see me in a rocking chair on the porch, telling great-grandkids: "Once upon a time, there was this stupid starlet named Britney ... or maybe Bitley, or Bentley ... whatever, the point was that she was chased by these people who actually carried cameras ... yes, honey, I know that you can take 60 pictures a second of me with a twitch of your ear to your hat-embedded camera, please stop, you're giving Granny a slight stroke with the light strobe ... Anyway, this Bitty girl changed the sociology of information consumption by shaving various parts of her body and displaying it to the whole world ..."

Did you by chance see the sitcom show "How I Met your Mother" last night? She was on it as a guest character...it's like she's everywhere.
