Still Plugging Along

I'm still here in the hospital, and I got a visit from the nutritionist yesterday to admonish me for not gaining any weight. Um, maybe if the food wasn't GROSS I would eat more of it. But today I made a concerted effort to eat more, to the extent that I felt kind of sick after lunch. A new addition to lunch and dinner: "Magic Cup," a weight gain ice cream made by Hormel. Its consistency is akin to a cross between pudding and animal fat. I think I have a weigh-in tomorrow, and I'm hoping I showed a gain from last week so I can skip the Magic.

Thanks to everyone for all the support -- it definitely helps keep my morale up.

Oh girl...can we be anymore alike?!?! The UU, the hospital stay, and the lack of weight gain. I don't know how much you followed along with me...but due to the UU and position of the uterus near the stomach...UUers can sometimes get this reverse peristalsis with contractions and cause loss of weight gain and nausea. I'm not sure what you're feeling at the moment, but you're not alone. As weird as it is, I learned that the lack of weight gain often goes along with the UU. I'm with you for the long haul...hang tight girl...we can do this!

Hello- I just came over via Sara's blog. I'm so sorry to hear your story, but you seem like you're getting the rhythm of the hospital routines, and staying pregnant-- good work!

I'm a preterm labor graduate myself- landed in the hospital at 24 weeks 5 days but didn't deliver until 36w4d. I'll keep checking in on you! Good luck!

Speaking of magic, do you have a Magic Bullet? When I was forced to gain weight during my pregnancy, I would make smoothies from full-fat milk, full-fat yogurt, vanilla-flavored whey protein powder (from GNC), fruit, and Nesquick.

They went down easily...any way that Steve can come make these for you?

Magic Cup sounds disgusting. It makes me think of that lady with the funny accent who used to tell you how bad it was to eat a bagel every day.

Is there an address to which I can mail you stuff at the hospital? Where the heck are you, anyway?

Hey, I came over from Sara's blog. You are doing great, and I just wanted to let you know that my daughter was born 10 months ago at 25 weeks after hospital bedrest, and if you have any questions or need anything, please let me know. Info is on my blog.

Yesterday was my daughter's 9th birthday. My water broke at 23 weeks and she was born at 25 weeks 2 days. She weighed 1 pound 10 oz and spent 90 days in the NICU. I She is in the 3rd grade and does not have a single health or development issue. We are very blessed! I hope my story can give you a glimmer of hope that things can turn out perfect. Hang in there and take it one day at a time. Your family will be in my thoughts.

Admit it: A part of you loves it when they tell you you're not fat enough. Thinking about you, looking forward to the happy ending.

Hello Gorgeous! I'm glad things are looking up in hospital land--music helps. Today I was thinking about making you a mixed cd with dance music, but thought aside from my horrible taste in music, maybe you shouldn't boogie too much right now. But then I read Kelly's note about Barry Manilow and wondered about musical taste anyway! ;)

Sending you lots of good thoughts. Oh, and try chocolate Ensure for the weight gain. It's actually pretty tasty. Avoid Vanilla and Coffee flavors. If you must have fruitiness, try mixed berry but not strawberry.

I don't understand why hospitals don't serve better food. You'd think that people who are hospitals, especially for a long time, should get the best food to help them get better and feel better! And that Magic Cup sounds disgusted. When I think about all the things that could help me gain weight, they all sound delicious... except that. Truly, only a hospital could make weight-gaining food taste nasty.

Thanks for keeping us all updated. I check my reader every day to see if you've posted, because I'm always thinking about you and praying for you. And I wanted to tell you that the other day I was praying for you, and I just got this good feeling about you and the baby. :-)

Clearly, your visitors should be bringing you better food! I would kill someone if I had to exist on hospital food (and it usually made my husband sick when he ate any of it). Good luck - you can hold out for 9 or 10 more weeks (if someone brings you better food, that is).

mmmm....magic cup. Maybe it has bacon fat in it. Did you know that you can buy chocolate covered bacon at a candy shop in the Essex Street Market on the LES? I know, sounds delicious.

If I were there I'd make you a chocolate snake.

The magic bullet smoothie is a good idea. If you like peanut butter, you could add that into your shake and it would definitely help you gain weight.

I have to say the hospitals I've been in have always had good food. To the point that when DP was in she'd order extra for me.

Thinking of you and hoping all is well.
